Which one is better for a starter, bifocal or progressives? We all know that they are both used by people who suffered only from distance and near vision, actually, if you this is your first time to wear multi-focal, I am more inclined to the no-line focals, as they can give you the intermediate distance also that a bifocal can't do, and most progressives will blur out at some point on the outer edges of the lens in the distance portion, the intermediate portion of the lens it is more like normal vision, and it usually takes a good 2 weeks to feel OK, but 93% of those who have them wouldn't switch, however the brain gets used to that and it doesn't bother most people for long!
